LO3 Adobe Bridge

I used star ratings to label my photos. This helped me organise my photos so that I know which photos I like and which I don't. I used the a canon EOS 650D DSLR camera and a tripod with standard lens for half of the shots and for the other half of the shots I used both the telephoto and the wide angle lens.
This photo is my practice shot for my leading lines shot. Doing this practice shot was important as I needed to practice getting the deep depth of field and the composition of the photo. By doing this shot I learned that I need a wide angle lens to draw in more light for my photo.
This is a practice shot is for framing. I did this shot so that I could practice composing my photo and also adjusting my shutter speed and aperture so that I balance out the colours. I learned from this practice shoot that I need to wait till there is more light in the photo so that the photo doesn't get over exposed.
This shot is a practice shot for my my depth of field photo.  I took this shot to practice my composition with rule of thirds. I also practiced using depth of field which wasn't successful at all. I learned that I was unable to create the depth of field I wanted for my photo so I decided upon the idea of editing in the shallow depth of field.
This shot is a practice for my shutter speed photograph. This photo was taken to practice the very fast shutter speed, this practice shot shows I was able to Freeze the bird in motion. I was also practicing getting the focus correct so that the bird is in focus. From this practice shot I learned how fast the shutterspeed needed to be to freeze the bird in motion and I also learned how to properly focus on the bird.
This shot shows my practice at getting an extreme close up on a lady bird. For this shot I practiced how to get the focal point correct and I also practiced how to capture the light on the subject. From this practice shot I learned how to focus properly on the subject and also how to get the correct lighting on the subject.

This photo is a leading lines shot of a country lane. My theme is The Identity of Rural Derbyshire and this photo fits into this as it shows the quite peaceful roads that are around the area. This shot is usable as it fits with my theme and also my technique of leading lines.
The shot type for this photo is a wide shot, this is because the photo captures the entire scene this denotes being able to see all the way down the road and the connotation of this is adventure as the road could lead anywhere. The angle for this photo is that it is a eyeline shot, so the photo looks as if it is at the same height and angle and a persons eye line, this denotes that it looks as if the audience is looking down this road themselves, however the connotation of this is the freedom and escapism as it could make the audience feel as though they are there. The foreground for this photo is a road however this road expands and leads into the background too, also in both the forground and the background are the trees and hedges which line the road. This smooth transition between the foreground and background denotes a road leading into the distance however it connotes that the picture could take you on a relaxing journey. This photo is deep depth of field as the focus expands far into the distance of the image, this denotes that that the audience can see far into the distance, where as it connotes a feeling of freedom. This photograph is framed by the trees and hedges that line the road as the help draw the attention the the subject of the road.
This photo has been composed so that the foreground is under the bottom line of thirds, then the mid ground is centered between both the bottom and top lines of thirds and then the background is on above the top lines of thirds.
In this photo I used a small aperture of F 10.0 to give my shot a deep depth of field. I used a shutter speed of 1/500th of a second as I wanted to freeze any motion within my photo. The ISO for this was set to auto ISO which then set the ISO to 1600, I imagine that the reasoning for this ISO was so that the light levels where balanced out as my shutter speed was very fast so it may have over exposed my photo without a high ISO.
I do not intend on editing this photo.

This photo is a shallow depth of field shot of a old barn. The theme for my photos is the Identity of Rural Derbyshire and this photo fits into the theme as it shows the history of the farming that is a crucial part of Derbyshires countryside.
The shot type for this photo is a landscape shot, this is because it doesn't just capture the barn but also part of the landscape around it. The denotation for this is that the subject is an old barn that looks weathered over time and the connotation of this is that it shows how peaceful the day to day life of a farmer working in the area would be. The shot angle for this photo is a slight low angle as it looks up a hill at the barn, this could denote that the barn is in a very unusual hilly area, however this could connote that the barn is a lost ruins that needs exploring. The image is composed so that the foreground is below the bottom line of thirds, the mid ground with the subject is between both lines of thirds and then the background is above the top line of thirds. This connotes the importance of the balance between nature and the man made objects. In this photo there is a shallow depth of field, this connotes the emphasis that I wish to place on the subject.  This image is framed by the ground and the sky and this denotes that the framing helps draws the audience to the subject.  This photo is composed well as it holds a balance between the foreground and background. The subject has also been placed on a focal point so that is it gets as much attention as possible. An improvement to this could be to have an object on the other side of the picture to the subject so to balance it out more.  I used a shutter speed of 1/60th of a second, this is quite a slow shutter speed and it was used to help improve the lighting on the photograph. The aperture used was f stops 14.0, this is a small aperture as I wanted to balance out the slow shutter speed so that the image doesn't become over exposed. The ISO used for this photograph was 100, this is average as the the light levels were already balanced. A standard lens was used to capture this image as I believe it fitted well with the shot type.  In Photoshop I plan on editing the photo by adding a more dramatic shallow depth of field, this is so that I can really focus the viewers attention on the subject. This editing will add to the original connotations of showing the history of the location. I will also on top of that add a soft glow to the photo, this will enhance my meaning by giving it the feeling of warmth and relaxation.

This photo captures the scene of a bird mid flight, this shot is my shutter speed shot. It fits with my theme as it shows the wildlife of the area.
The shot type for this photo was extreme long shot as the bird was a long distance away from me, this denotes that the bird was uneffected by my presence and photgraphy, however it connotes that the bird is in a space of its own and shows the freedom of its nature. The angle for this shot was a low angle shot, this denotes that I was stood on the ground where as the bird was flying at a high altitude. The conntotation of this could be that the bird represents that Derbyshire is a world of its own, detached from the rest of the world. The foreground of this shot shows us the subject of the photo, as this is the only forground in the shot it denotes that there is no other birds around, this could connote that the subject is the only part of the photo that wants attention. The background of this photo is the blue sky of a summer day, this denotes that it is a sunny day however this connotes that the photographer is giving a plain neutral background to his subject so that the subjects gets as much attention as possible. The depth of field for this photo is deep depth of field this dentes that the subject is in focus, this connotes that I wanted to be able to show the blue sky in focus as well as the subject so that the sky acts as a background to my subject. The blue sky frames the bird as it has a clear juxtaposition between the block blue of the sky and the striking black of the bird.
This photograph I feel is composed well as the subject is centered thus giving it the the most attettion however the composition would have been even better if the bird was composed on a focal point.
The settings used for this photo were f stops 13 for the aperture, this is a narrow aperture which created the deep depth of field that I needed so that the subject remained in focus at the distance it was at. The shutter speed was 1/500th of a second,  this was used to freeze the motion of the bird. The ISO used was 320, this was used to balance out the light levels that had been reduced by the aperture. The lens used for this shot was a telephoto lens as this is the only lens that is able to capture a shot that is a long distance away from the camera, without the subject being out of focus. I plan on editting the photo by cropping it, this will be done so that the bird is more visable as at the moment it is slightly to far away. This editing will also help enhance the meaning of the photo as the audience will then be able to see the bird more clearly and therefore have a better understanding of the photo.
This photograph shows a clearing in a forested area, through the frame of two trees. This shot is my framing shot. This photograph fits into my theme as it shows the peacefulness of Derbyshire.
The shot type is a landscape shot as the shot clearly denotes a landscape that resides in this area. However it connotes the beauty of the Derbyshire landscape. The shot angle for this is an eyeline shot,  this denotes that the shot is as if looking from a persons point of view, the connotation of this is it could immerse the audience more making it look as if they are actually there. The foreground of this photograph shows the trees framing the photograph, this denotes that they are close to the camera however connotes that the trees are only included in the photograph to add a frame to the background. The background is a landscape, this denotes that the photographer chose this landscape as his subject, the connotation of this is that it is not focusing the attention on one specific subject but instead a whole landscape. A deep depth of field was used for this shot as it denotes that I wanted to make every aspect of the photo clear and in focus, however it connotes that I wanted the audience for this photo to be able to explore ever inch of the photo in as great detail as possible. This photo is framed by two trees, this dennotes that the trees create a natural border for the image and this connotes that it make the photo seem as if it is a door to a magical hidden place that is unaccesable otherwise.
The aperture used for this was F 9.0, this is quite a narrow aperture which was used to create a deep depth of field on the photograph. The shutterspeed used for this photograpgh is 1/200th of a second, this is an average shutter speed, which gives the photo a lot of light. The ISO is 200 this is average ISO, and was used to make sure that the photo doesn't get over exposed.  The lens used for this was the standard lens as it gave my shot the realism I am looking for. I do not plan on editing this photo as I am going for realism in this photograph.
This photo graph shows an upclose shot of a ladybird. This is my extreme close up shot. It fits into my theme as the photo makes it look as if the ladybird is wandering through its own landscape where it is peaceful and calm much like Derbyshire.
The shot type for this is a extreme close up, this denotes that we are looking very closely at the subject. The connotation of this is that the audience will see the ladybird a lot larger than they would usually, so it makes the ladybird seem new and exciting. The shot angle for this is a slight high angle, this denotes that we see more of the landscape and terrain around the ladybird, this connotes that the audience is looking at the lady bird as an detached entity there for being able to spectate the ladybird. The foreground of this is very similar to the background as it shows the terrain that the subject is sitting on, where as the actual subject is in mid ground. This denotes that the photographer is adding a balance to the photograph, however this connotes that the subject becomes obvious and very noticeable. A shallow depth of field was used for this photo, this denotes that the background of the photograph is out of focus, this connotes that it makes the subject of the lady birds colours stand out more. The subject in this photograph is framed by the landscape in which it walks, this denotes that the lady bird is given a background in which it stands out, this connotes that this therefore gives the subject all of the attention.
The aperture used for this shot was F 13.0, this is a very narrow aperture however this was used to counteract the fact that I was using a telephoto lens for a extreme close up and the focus was obscured. The shutter speed used for this shot was 1/500th of a second, this is a very fast shutter speed and I used it to freeze the motion of the lady bird. The ISO used in this image is 1250, Which is extremely high and would usually over expose and image however as the aperture was very narrow and not letting in much light the photo would have come out very dark so to counter act this the ISO was turned right up. This again was because I was using a telephoto lens for a extreme close up shot. The lens used was a telephoto lens, this was because at this time a macro lens was not available and I had to go with the next best lens for the shot. I do not intend on editing this photo as I believe it already has a good shallow depth of field, also I like the way the colours are naturally.

This photograph show another of my leading lines shot, however this one is slightly of to the right. It fit to my theme as it shows a quite country lane in Derbyshire. It is useable as it denotes Derbyshire.
The shot type for this photo is a wide shot. This is because the photo draws in surrounding area, this  denotes being able to follow the road to a point where you can no futher see it, the connotation of this is mystery as the road go any place. The shot angle of this photo is that it is a eyeline shot. This is so the photo looks as if it is a persons point of view, this denotes that it looks as if the audience are there looking down the road. However the connotation of this is the escapism as it could make the audience feel as though they are there and away from the real world. The foreground of this photo is a road that expands and leads into the background, aswell as this both the background and foreground feature trees and hedges which line the road. This smooth progression between the foreground and background denotes the road is leading into the distance till it can no longer be seen. However it connotes that the picture could take you on a relaxing journey. This photo is deep depth of field as the photo remains in focus far into the distance of the image. This deep depth of field denotes that the audience can see all the way down this country lane, where as it connotes a feeling of adventure. This photograph is framed by the trees and hedges that line the road, and they help draw the attention to the subject of the road.
This image has been composed so that the foreground is under the bottom line of thirds, then the mid ground is centered between both the bottom and top lines of thirds and then the background is on above the top lines of thirds. This is so it offers a smooth transition.
For this shot I used an aperture of 13.0 this is so that I get the deep depth of field I was looking for. I used a shutterspeed of 1/160 of a second as this is average for a stationary photograph during sunlight. I used and ISO of 200 which is also average, this is because I didn't need to correct any light levels.
I do not intend on editing this shot as I like the natural realistic look it offers.
This is a framing shot of a forest area with a clearing in it. This shot fits into my theme as it shows a country area that looks peaceful.
The shot type is a landscape shot as the shot denotes a vast landscape is located in Derbyshire. However it connotes the isolation of the Derbyshire landscape. The shot angle for this is a point of view angle,  this denotes that the shot is as if looking from a persons eyes. The connotation of this is it could immerse the audience more making it more realistic. The foreground of this photograph shows the trees framing the photograph. This denotes that they are next to the photograper, however connotes that the trees create an idea of the person is looking through a frame to a different world. The background is a landscape, this denotes that this specific landscape has been chosen as the subject, the connotation of this is that it is not focusing the attention on one specific subject but instead a whole landscape. A deep depth of field was used for this shot as it denotes the photographer wanted to get every little detail of the landscape into his photo,  however it connotes that he wanted the audience for this photo to be able to explore the photo in as great detail as possible. This photo is framed by two trees, this dennotes that the trees create a natural border the landscape and this connotes that it makes the photo seem as if it is a door to a place that is unaccesable any other way.
For this photograph the image was composed with a frame of two trees and then the rule of thirds dictating where the foreground and background are. However the framing on this image is slightly off as you can see next to the tree on the right.
A aperture of 9.0 was used for this shot, this is quite a small small aperture so it offers a deep depth of field however as it is quite a small aperture it doesn't let as much light into the lens. The shutter speed used for this was 1/200 of a second, this is an average shutter speed. This shutter speed offer both a fast capture and also allows light into the lens to counteract the aperture. The ISO for this is 200, this is an average ISO as not a lot of light correction was needed.
I do not think I will edit this shot as it has a nice natural warmth to it already.

This photograph shows a barn sat in a grassy area. This shot fits into my theme as it shows the history and farming around the area.
The shot type for this photo is a landscape shot, as it captures both the barn and the landscape around it. The denotation for this is that the subject of this photograph is an old barn that looks broken and aged over time and the connotation of this is that it shows how peaceful the day to day life of a farmer working in the area would be. The shot angle of this photograph is an eyeline angle as it looks as if you are looking at the barn, the connotation of this is that the barn is a lost ruins that needs exploring. The image is composed so that the foreground is below the bottom line of thirds, the mid ground, the subject is on the left lines of thirds and then the background is above the top line of thirds. This connotes the importance of the balance between nature and the man made objects. In this photo there is a shallow depth of field, this connotes the emphasis that I wish to place on the subject.  This image is framed by the ground and the sky the denotation of this is that the framing helps draws emphasis to the subject.  This photo is composed well as it holds a balance between the foreground and background. The subject has also been placed on the left line of thirds so that is it gets as much attention as possible. The aperture used for this photo is 8.0 as it offers the ability to get shallow depth of field from a long distance. The shutter speed used for this is 1/125th of a second this is a slow shutterspeed but this is useful as it allows for light into the lens. The ISO used for the image was 100 as the image need no light correction as the shutter speed and aperture balanced the light levels out.
If I am to edit this photograph i think I will probably add blur to create a shallower depth of field.

This photograph shows a bird soaring high up in the sky. This fits into my theme as it shows the freedom of the area and how calm the area is.
The shot type for this photo was extreme long shot as the bird was a long distance away from the camera, this denotes that the bird was uneffected by my presence and also that it is very high up in the air. However it connotes that the bird is in a world of its own and shows the freedom of its life. The angle for this shot was a very low angle shot, this denotes that I was stood on the ground underneath where the bird was flying. The conntotation of this could be that the bird represents isolation. The foreground of this shot shows us the subject of the photo, as this is the only forground in the shot it denotes that it is the center of attention. The background of this photo is the blue sky, this denotes that it is a sunny day however this connotes that the photographer is giving a plain neutral background to his subject so that the subjects gets as much attention as possible. The depth of field for this photo is deep depth of field this denotes that the subject is in focus, this connotes that I wanted to be able to show the background in focus as well as the subject. The blue sky frames the bird as it has a clear juxtaposition between the blue of the sky and the dark silhouette of the bird.
This photograph is composed badly as the subject is too small on the background. The subject is also placed on no focul points or lines of thirds, so the subject doesn't get as much attention as wanted.
The aperture used for this shot was 13.0, this was used to create and extremely deep depth of field so that the subject remains in focus. The shutter speed used for this shot was 1/1250th of a second, which is extremely fast because to capture a bird mid flight a high shutter speed is needed to freeze the motion. The ISO used for this shot is 1600 which is also extremely high, this was used to counteract the underexposure that bothe the aperture and the shutter speed contributed to.
I will edit this photograph by cropping it as the bird is very small on the screen I would attempt to increase its size so that the audience can clearly see the bird.
This shot shows a ladybird on a stone. This fits into the theme as the lady bird shows the natural beauty of Derbyshire.
The shot type for this is a extreme close up, this denotes that we are looking very closely at the subject. The connotation of this is that the audience are able to see the ladybird in great detail and therefore see it in a new light. The shot angle for this is a slight high angle, this denotes that we see more of the landscape and terrain around the ladybird, this connotes that the audience is able to see the lady bird in a miniature landscape. The foreground of this is very similar to the background as it shows the terrain that the subject is sitting on, where as the actual subject is in mid ground. This denotes that the photographer is adding a balance to the photograph, however this connotes that the subject becomes very noticeable against the background. A shallow depth of field was used for this photo, this denotes that the background of the photograph is out of focus and the foreground is in focus, this connotes that it makes the subject of the lady bird stand out more. The subject in this photograph is framed by the landscape that it is located in, this denotes that the lady bird is given a background with neutral colours and textures in which it stands out, this connotes that this therefore gives the subject all of the attention.
The aperture used for this shot was f 13.0, this usually create a deep depth of field, however I was using a telephoto lens to get to extreme close up I was looking for so as I was stood a distance away I needed a aperture to give me shallow depth of field from this distance. The shutter speed used for this shot was 1/500th of a second. This is a fast shutter speed and I used it to freeze the motion of the ladybird. Both the aperture and the shutter speed made the shot under exposed so to balance out the light levels I used an ISO of 2500, which is unusually high.
I do not plan on editing this shot as I like the way the red of the lady bird contrasts with the gray of the stone.
